Meet the Designer

Colin Sonnichsen is a Los Angeles-based furniture designer with deep roots in the Midwest.

Born and raised in Iowa, Colin was introduced to the world of woodworking by his father, a skilled craftsman who built beautiful, custom homes from the ground up. Working alongside his father, Colin developed an appreciation for meticulous craftsmanship, precision, and a work ethic that defines the heart of the Midwest—values that remain at the core of his design philosophy today.

After earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Industrial Design from Iowa State University, Colin moved to Los Angeles in 2015 to refine his craft and expand his design sensibilities. There, he immersed himself in a variety of apprenticeships, learning from seasoned professionals and blending the timeless principles of Midwestern craftsmanship with the vibrant, innovative energy of California design.

Now based in Highland Park, Colin is the founder and lead designer of Fulton Street Design, a custom furniture and design studio dedicated to creating sophisticated, handcrafted pieces. Drawing from the clean lines and timeless elegance of mid-century modern design, Colin’s work is infused with the practicality and attention to detail of his roots, while embracing the refined style and luxury of the west coast.
